Accommodation
The house ‘Le Segala’ was built in 1850 and was
originally a working farm. We believe that Rye was grown by the family in
the fields to the front of the house.
Renovated in the 1950’s into a family home and then
again by ourselves in 2003, the house offers all the modern amenities with
the traditional charm of an old farmhouse.
Ground Floor
Kitchen
Newly fitted, well equipped, beautiful Oak kitchen.
Belfast sink, Dishwasher,
Oven/Hob, Fridge/Freezer, Microwave Oven, Ironing
Board/Iron, and crockery. Plenty of work surface space. A beautiful oak
window with shutters looks out to the side of the house.
Utility Room
This is the old Bread Oven which is attached to the
house, next to the kitchen, but access is gained from the outside. This is
a large room still with original oven intact and houses the washing and
drying machine. There is plenty of storage for bikes, canoes etc.
Lounge/Dining Room.
A large room which is entered through a beautiful oak
door. The room is some 30sq meters. The lounge area is to the front of this room,
with the main seating area around the large open fire. The large window at
this side of the room looks out to the orchard.
The dining area is on the left side of this room next
to the kitchen and has a large dining table and eight chairs (more chairs in
bread oven if required). A A large window looks out over the patio area and
surrounding fields.
As with the rest of the house this room is decorated
and furnished to a very high standard with antique and rustic furniture.
For your comfort we have also provided a selection of games, books and also
a stereo (please bring your own cd’s). We have also installed Sky TV
and provided a DVD and Video Player, along with a selection of films. There is also a double Sofa Bed
which sleeps two if required
The whole room has a stone floor which keeps the house
nice and cool in the summer months.
Bathroom
A modern light and airy tiled bathroom, again newly
fitted in 2003 to a very high specification. Toilet, double sink and double shower fitted with brand new power shower.
Oak window with shutter looks out towards the barn.
First Floor
Bedroom 1
Large double aspect room overlooking the small orchard
and the patio area.
Beautifully decorated with wooden flooring and one wall
stripped back to the original stone. Tastefully furnished with French
Antiques. Main furniture – Double Bed, Wardrobe and Pot Cupboard.
Bedroom 2
This is a mezzanine bedroom in the middle of the house
with oak stairs leading down into the lounge.
It has two traditional French single beds and some other
pieces of furniture. Oak window looks out over the fields to the front of
the house.
Bedroom 3
The largest bedroom in the house, this room was
originally the kitchen when the house was a working farm. There is a large
Inglenook fire, original stone sink and wall stripped back to the original
stone work. Oak window looks out to the barn.
Again this room is decorated to a high standard with a
French antique double bed and other antique furniture. There is also a
fold-away single 'Z’ bed.
As this room was the old kitchen there is a door with
a staircase leading out into the garden. If you are luckily enough to have
this room then the top of the stairs is a very nice place to sit and have
your morning coffee.
Extras
We have provided a cot, baby bath and high chair, all
of which are stored in the bread oven.
A selection of antique and modern bed linen provided
at no extra cost.
Towels can be provided on request at a small charge to
cover the cost of laundering. Please let us know your requirements when
booking. Please only use the towels at the house, not at the river or lake.
Outside
The house and barn (our next project) is located in
beautiful un-spoilt countryside. The garden area to the left of the house is
planted with fruit and nut trees. We have put a bench under the lounge
window so you can sit here and enjoy the peace and quiet while eating
something you have picked from the trees. There are also two large poplars
at the bottom of the garden.
To the front of the house is the patio area with
seating (BBQ
is stored in bread oven). There is also a large fig tree,
which fruits during August and September – please help your-selves! From
this area you look over the fields and woodlands. We have also installed
lighting so if you wish you can sit out here all night looking for the local
owls.
To
the right of the house is the drive way, barn and access to the bread oven.
Here you will also find our superb large oak tree, which is over 200 years
old.
